Target audience

The target audience for my newspaper would be local people in general. Therefore i will be reporting on stories that would interest local people: local council, community centres etc. However i think the paper would appeal more to adults and the elderly than youths. I am therefore planning to include advertisements in my newspaper that appeal to this slightly older audience. For example, this image of the front page of a Halstead Gazette features adverts such as an opticians (in the right hand corner) and a stair chair (in the bottem left hand corner).

Local stories

The title of my newspaper

This mind map shows a variety of different titles currently used for local newspapers across the country. As i will be basing my newspaper in my local area and am specifically focusing on Sible Hedingham, i have decided to use the title 'Sible Hedingham Standard'. I have chosen this title because the alliteration of 'Sible' with 'Standard' creates a catchy title but the inclusion of 'Hedingham' prevents it from sounding unprofessional.

Construction of the Braintree and Witham Times

Construction of Sudbury Mercury

Construction of Halstead Gazette

Introduction

For my A2 media studies coursework i will be completing question eight in the specification in creating the first two pages of a local newspaper as well as a poster for the newspaper and two hyperlinked pages from its website. During this process i will research into popular stories featured in local newspapers as well as common attractive layouts. Looking at currently successful local newspapers such as the Halstead Gazette and the Sudbury Mercury will allow me to create a much more relevant example of effective local news coverage.
